Early Childhood & Preschool Music

Research shows that the most important time to begin musical training is in early childhood.  Music is processed in the brain like a language, so the best time to start working on the basic skills necessary for more advanced musical instruction later in life is from birth to age seven.  In addition, children who are actively engaged in singing, dancing, finger play, chants, and rhythm instrument play also experience significant gains in the areas of cognitive (thinking), language, physical, social, and emotional development.

In this early childhood music program, parents and caregivers learn how to be musical with their children, modelling active music making or “musiking” skills while children develop basic tonal and rhythmic skills through active musical play that will provide a foundation for future musical experiences, whether that be formal lessons or simply a lifelong joy of competent participation in the music of their culture and community.

This class is a great way to spend quality time with your child or family while also socialising with other parents/caregivers and children in the community.  The social bonding power of a mixed age family music class also creates lasting friendships, in addition to enhancing your family’s quality of life through joyful music play.  Many parents have agreed that the class provides therapeutic exercise and stress relief as well!

No previous experience in music is necessary, and many parents and caregivers who lack basic music skills (the ability to sing in tune and keep a beat) find that their own abilities improve over time.

Visit our “About Us” tab for more information about our Director/Facilitator Pamela West-Finkle (“Miss Pam”).

We hope you’ll join us for a free demonstration class so you can experience for yourself the fun of this approach to fundamental music learning.

Miss Pam’s Jamboree

Miss Pam’s Jamboree is a full participation music class where parents and caregivers are taught to model active music making. Expect to sing, wiggle, jump, dance along with American and World Folk Music. We use children’s percussion instruments, scarves, parachutes, and balls. Children birth to age 7 learn basic music skills naturally through play and fun! Dress comfortably and bring water if needed.
